Business Networks

EchoSat Communications Group

Many retailers have been expanding their operations to more remote cities and towns to reach new customers.  Though potentially lucrative, they've faced several obstacles, most notably the lack of reliable and affordable terrestrial networks for conducting credit card transactions. Recognizing the advantages of satellites in reaching these remote locations, EchoSat turned to SES AMERICOM to power its VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) network to address the needs of these retailers.

Using the DOCSIS-based IPConnect® service for VNOs (virtual network operators), Echosat enables merchants and retailers to conduct electronic funds transfer (EFT) data transactions to credit network processors for credit/debit card transactions, check clearance and verification, ATM connectivity, and other financial transactions requiring a highly secure transfer. Echosat customers can also use the service to establish wide area and in-store wireless networks.

IPConnect Virtual Network Services is a fully-managed service combining reliable Ku-band satellite bandwidth capacity with low-cost end-user equipment. Thanks to IPConnect, EchoSat operates its own VSAT network without the cost of building the required hub infrastructure.

With SES AMERICOM providing the platform and satellite bandwidth to EchoSat’s NOC (network operations center) and outlying clients throughout the United States, the privately owned network service provider is rapidly growing, and helping businesses meet their business goals.

The REDiSat NetworkTM

One year after the world witnessed the devastation of the Gulf Coast, SES AMERICOM had three branches of Louisiana financial institutions among the first to sign on with its new REDiSat Network™, a satellite-delivered emergency communications solution designed to keep banks and other businesses up and running even when network connections and phones are out.

The Houma branch of the South Louisiana Bank and the Lafayette and St. Martinville branch locations of St. Martin Bank & Trust Co. followed the endorsement of the Louisiana Bankers Association, which also inked a deal for secure, emergency connectivity and data transmissions at its Baton Rouge headquarters. The Missouri Independent Bankers Association has also endorsed the REDiSat system, which can restore connectivity in a matter of minutes or hours versus days or weeks.

Following Hurricane Katrina and other recent natural disasters, business continuity plans and mandated telecom backup compliance are under increasing scrutiny from regulators and examiners. REDiSat offers a low-cost, customized solution and a compelling alternative to land-locked T1 circuits for both small and large financial firms. A single pre-installed REDiSat Network satellite antenna can enable a bank branch to mitigate risk and avoid business shutdowns due to network outages. The highly reliable REDiSat service leverages SES AMERICOM’s satellite fleet, which carries millions of secure financial transactions every day and has been used by U.S. Government agencies and Fortune 500 companies for 30 years.

The REDiSat Network is rapidly becoming an intriguing new service offered by value-added resellers across the U.S.  For more information on becoming a reseller, please contact Steve Barr at (1) 703-610-1016.
