Education Grants


SES AMERICOM’s goal is to be a leading corporate citizen in furthering education for children.  We want to share our expertise and resources to promote science and engineering education, by expanding our community partnerships and philanthropic initiatives to partner with schools and educational programs that enable learning and growth related to the space and technology industries.

Grant applications will be consider for Science and Engineering Education for students in public school K-12.

Our employees are experts in rocket science, electrical engineering, broadcast and media technology and international sales relations.  We want to share our expertise and encourage interest in science and engineering. 

To be considered for an SES AMERICOM Grant you must take the following steps:

  1. Read the grant guidelines
  2. Fill out the application
  3. Send application to Jennifer Olson, SES AMERICOM (contact details are below)

If you are applying for multiple grant categories, you must fill out separate applications for each category, and indicate on your application that you are applying for multiple categories.  You may apply for one grant in each category per year.  Applications sponsored by an SES employee are encouraged

Grant Categories

We will consider grants in amounts as detailed below:

  1. $500 - $1,000 for a Science Fair or other Science Education Event in a public school K-12.  For this category, an SES AMERICOM representative must be in attendance at the event we are sponsoring.
  2. $1,000 - $5,000 for a Science and Engineering Education club or special program in a public school K-12. For this grant amount to be considered, the project must include some SES employee involvement, which could include a speaking engagement, mentoring, attendance at a dedication ceremony, an SES site tour or other involvement agreed upon by our community relations committee. 
  3. $10,000+ for a public school to start a “Project Lead The Way” program.  For this grant amount, schools must be willing to partner with SES AMERICOM in a Project Lead The Way program.  PLTW works with schools to implement an instructional program to prepare students to be successful in post secondary engineering and engineering technology programs.  See www.pltw.org for additional information. For this Grant Category, the grantee must apply for a Project Lead The Way Program with in one calendar year of the grant award.  SES AMERICOM must be on the “partnership team” as outlined in the Project Lead The Way program.

 

For all grant award recipients, we reserve the right to monitor the program it is funding and may request documentation on the project implementation and results.  Applications must show specific budget and goals for the project it is supporting.

Grant Application Timetable

  1. Grants will be awarded for the 2008-2009 school year.
  2. All Grant applications must be received by June 1, 2008.
  3. Grants will be reviewed in June and July.
  4. Grant applicants will be contacted in August as to whether or not they will be receiving a grant award.
